Ifeoma White-Thorpe, 17, a senior at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway, received acceptance letters from all eight Ivy League schools
When it comes to college admission the requirements are extremely high for Ivy League schools. In particular, the nation’s best students aren’t guaranteed acceptance even if they exceed the minimum criteria. There’s a misconception about black high school students’ likelihood of attending predominantly white higher educational institutions, commonly suggesting that they are more likely to gain acceptance into historically black colleges and universities. Due to this false perception, black families usually encourage their kids to prepare for the HBCU experience at one of many prestigious colleges in the
country like Florida A&M, Howard and Clark, to name a few.
But a New Jersey high schooler is negating all stereotypes attached to African American’s college of choice, as Ifeoma White-Thorpe has unintentionally raised the standard with eight acceptance letters from all Ivy League schools. The 18-year-old experienced a whirlwind of emotions once she opened the final letter from one of the eight colleges. Speaking
with WABC-TV, the student government president said “I was like, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, like this might be eight out of eight and I clicked it and it said ‘Congratulations’ and I was like oh my goodness!”

It’s too early for Ifeoma to celebrate though because she faces the difficult decision in choosing between top schools in the nation: Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Dartmouth and Brown, with Stanford rumored as an option, per a VIBE report.
With plans of majoring in biology, the soon-to-be college freshman has already expressed an interest in pursuing a career in the global health profession upon graduation. Whatever her choice is, we are sure she will be on her way to success! Now that’s the epitome of #BlackExcellence!
