This year’s 85th Annual Academy Awards has made history with Quvenzhané Wallis’ nomination as the youngest ever nominee for Best Actress in a leading role. In addition to 9-year-old’s much talked about nod, Denzel Washington is also up for Best Actor in a leading role.
Though there were years where no African-Americans were nominated (such as in 2011), we took a retrospective look at those who were.
